Review: Canon Ixus 70
Review of Canon Ixus 70
I’ve had Canon Ixus 70 for about year now, and here is a quick look at my experience, the good and the bad about this digital camera. It’s model name in US and some other countries is also Canon PowerShot SD1000.
The good about Ixus 70
Has some problems, but you can live with them. The quality of images is good, all depends on settings you tune your camera, and you have a lot of settings to tune, if needed. It’s small, and tough enough - i keep it in my pocket every day, don’t feel the weight, and have dropped it multiple times in sand or pavement, nothing broken.
Cool features of Ixus 70
- long 15sec shutter time for taking beautiful and interesting night shots (my example: http://www.flickr.com/photos/paldies/2431521641/in/set-72157604639056581/ ),
- time lapse function, this one is amazing (my example: http://www.vimeo.com/1037312 ),
- super video quality for small cam like this (my example: http://www.vimeo.com/991601 ),
- the battery is really good, i charge it whenever i want, not waiting until it dies, and this has not even reflected on its quality, still holding long and enough,
- and yeah, you can customize this camera a lot - turn off annoying sounds, turn off automatics, shoot for HDR, etc.
The dark sides of Ixus 70
Two usability flaws - the power off button too close to shutter button. There have been times when instead of taking picture in rush i click the power off. Once this might ruin a nice one in a life time shot..
Second embarrassing flaw - the flash takes 5 seconds to power up. Forget quick shot in dark room, people will have to wait 5 seconds asking have you done the shot? And also if you have forgotten to switch off the flash, and there’s happening something right now - forget it, you’ll have to wait those 5 sec while camera loads its flash, by the time your sensational shot will have walked/ended already.
If you buy this camera, look for a really low price, it’s now almost two years old model, still a good one, but not worth to pay more than 200 USD.
And better keep it in it’s bag, because from keeping it in my pockets it has gotten dust into its optics, can’t wipe them off, they’re from inside, must bring to repair someday..
